Park Easy is a mobile application that enhances the urban parking experience by providing real-time information about available parking spaces, enabling users to reserve spots in advance, and simplifying the payment process.

Problem statement

Urban parking shortages and inefficient systems contribute to traffic congestion, emissions, and driver frustration. Traditional methods fail to provide timely solutions. There is an opportunity for a mobile app to revolutionise parking by offering real-time availability, reservation options, and simplified payments, improving the urban driving experience.

Design Process

To solve the problem, we took a human-centred design approach.

Business challenges

Market Saturation: The parking finder app market may already be saturated, making it challenging to stand out and attract users.

User Adoption: Convincing users to switch to a new parking app can be difficult, especially if they are already comfortable with existing solutions.

Data Accuracy: Ensuring the reliability of real-time parking availability information from various sources presents a significant challenge.

Monetisation Strategy: Developing a sustainable monetisation strategy without compromising the user experience is crucial for long-term success.

Regulatory Compliance: Adhering to diverse local regulations and parking laws adds complexity to the app's development and operation.

Research findings

– 85% of major shopping centres in Dhaka found on-street parking occupancy exceeding 85%
during peak evening hours (6-8pm).

– 22% of vehicles parked in commercial areas were illegally parked on sidewalks or roadsides.

– 38% of people spending over 15 minutes searching for parking, impacting their commute times.

– Dhaka's population growth at 4.2% annually, leading to a surge in vehicle ownership without
a corresponding increase in parking spaces.

User Requirements

– Real-Time Parking Availability: Users need access to accurate and up-to-date information about
available parking spaces in urban areas, particularly in congested cities like Dhaka, to reduce the
time spent searching for parking.

– Convenient Reservation System: Users require a convenient and user-friendly system for
reserving parking spots in advance, especially in high-demand areas or during peak hours.

– Affordable Parking Options: Users seek affordable parking options that suit their budget,
especially considering the economic context of Bangladesh. Pricing transparency and fair rates
are important considerations for users.

– Ease of Payment: Users need a streamlined and hassle-free payment process for parking fees,
with multiple payment options available such as cash, mobile wallets, or digital payment methods,
to ensure a seamless parking experience.

– Safety and Security: Users prioritise safety and security when parking their vehicles, particularly
in urban areas with high crime rates or risk of theft.

– Feedback and Support: Users appreciate the ability to provide feedback on parking facilities and the overall parking experience, as well as access to customer support for assistance with any issues or inquiries.
